Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18/09/26
This policy explains how The Wedding Avenue handles personal information when you browse our website, contact us or interact with the analytics and advertising services described below. Read it alongside our Cookie Policy.
1. Who is responsible for your information?
Finn Digital Media Group operates The Wedding Avenue and is the data controller for the processing we decide to carry out.
Correspondence address:
Baldings Cottages, Green Rd
Wivelsfield Green
Haywards Heath
RH17 7QD
United Kingdom
Privacy enquiries: info@theweddingavenue.co.uk
Website: theweddingavenue.co.uk
In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Finn Digital Media Group in its operation of The Wedding Avenue.
2. What information we receive
Information you send by email
When you email us, we receive your email address, any sender name, the contents of your message and attachments, and relevant email-delivery information. This may include editorial, advertising or general enquiries.
Our email service is provided by 20i. Our contact page displays an email address rather than providing a contact form.
We use correspondence to deal with the matter raised. Emailing us does not subscribe you to a newsletter or authorise us to upload your email address to an advertising audience.
Please send only information relevant to your enquiry. We will discuss any proposed publication of private correspondence, photographs or identifiable wedding stories separately; sending material is not, by itself, permission to publish everything it contains.
If someone contacts us about you, we receive the information from that sender. Where required, we will also provide privacy information directly to you.
Website and technical information
Our website is hosted by 20i. Delivering pages and protecting the service involves processing technical information, which can include IP addresses, requested URLs, access times, browser information and error or security records.
Analytics and advertising information
Subject to the relevant consent choices, Google Analytics, Google AdSense and Meta Pixel process information about website visits or advertising interactions. This can include online identifiers, page or referral information, event times, browser/device details and interactions with content or advertisements.
The service-specific purposes are explained below. Online identifiers can be personal information even where a report does not show your name.
Consent information
Our consent-management service records relevant choices, when they were made and the version of the notice presented, together with an identifier needed to recognise or demonstrate those choices.
3. Why we use information and our lawful bases
We use personal information only for identified purposes. The bases for our processing under UK data protection law are:
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Replying to correspondence and assessing editorial or advertising enquiries | Legitimate interests in communicating with readers and running the publication |
| Operating and securing the website and email service | Legitimate interests in maintaining reliable services and preventing misuse |
| Entering into or fulfilling an agreement directly with you | Contract, including steps you ask us to take before an agreement |
| Managing correspondence with someone representing a business | Legitimate interests in managing that business relationship |
| Website analytics through the optional tracking described here | Consent |
| Advertising tracking, personalisation and creation of Meta website audiences | Consent |
| Meeting statutory obligations, handling privacy requests and keeping necessary evidence of consent | Legal obligation, where that obligation applies |
| Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims | Legitimate interests in protecting our legal rights |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider the necessity of the processing and its effect on your rights. These interests do not replace consent for advertising tracking.
You are not required to provide information merely to read our articles. We may be unable to answer an enquiry or perform an agreement without the information needed for that purpose.
4. Google Analytics and Search Console
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand readership, how people reach the website and how they interact with our content.
Our enhanced measurement configuration includes page views, scrolling, outbound-link clicks, site searches, supported video interactions and file downloads. What is recorded depends on the features present and the relevant consent choices.
Google signals is enabled. For eligible visitors who are signed into Google and have enabled Ads Personalisation, it can enrich reporting with demographic and interest information associated with their Google account. Advertising-feature processing is subject to the relevant additional consent choices.
Analytics identifiers and Google advertising identifiers can be used together for these enabled features. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from Google’s aggregated demographic reports.
Our Analytics property is linked to Google Search Console and Google AdSense. Search Console supplies search-performance reporting; the AdSense integration supports combined advertising and Analytics reporting.
5. Google AdSense advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements.
With the relevant consent, Google and participating advertising partners can use cookies or similar technologies to select, deliver and measure advertisements. Personalised advertising can be based on visits to this website and other websites or apps.
Information processed can include online identifiers, technical device information and information about advertisements shown or clicked. The participating providers and their purposes are identified in our cookie and vendor information.
You can manage our website’s optional tracking through the controls explained in our Cookie Policy. Google also provides advertising choices through its Ads Settings.
6. Meta Pixel and website advertising audiences
With your consent, we use Meta Pixel to share information about visits to suitable pages with Meta. Our purpose is to create website Custom Audiences so we can advertise The Wedding Avenue to eligible previous visitors on Facebook and Instagram.
We may create these audiences before a campaign begins. This is advertising-related audience building, not just website-performance reporting.
The intended pixel information includes page visits and relevant URLs, event times, browser/device information, IP addresses and cookie or other online identifiers. Meta can use this information to match eligible visits with accounts and support audience-based advertising.
This audience is built from website activity, not from an email subscriber list. We do not upload your email correspondence to create it.
We will not use sensitive personal information, or inferences about religion, health or sexual orientation, to build advertising audiences. Pages and event details that could reveal such information must be excluded from this tracking.
You can refuse or withdraw the relevant consent through our cookie controls. You can also contact us about information already processed.
7. Sharing information
We do not sell your personal information. We do share information with service providers and advertising partners for the purposes described in this policy.
20i provides hosting and email and processes relevant customer data on our behalf under its data-processing terms.
Google receives information through Analytics and AdSense. Its role depends on the service: relevant Analytics processing is governed by its processor terms, while AdSense advertising includes processing under its independent-controller terms.
Meta receives the pixel information described in section 6 under the applicable arrangement identified there.
Our consent provider receives the information needed to manage choices. Relevant staff, contractors or professional advisers may access information where necessary to deal with your enquiry, maintain the service, meet a legal requirement or address a legal claim. We limit disclosure to the relevant purpose.
Service providers’ own privacy notices explain their separate processing. Those notices do not remove our responsibility for the processing we arrange.
8. International processing
Some services used by the website operate internationally. Processing can take place outside the UK, including in the United States. A UK-based hosting provider does not, by itself, mean that every service keeps all information in the UK.
Where a transfer is subject to UK international-transfer rules, it must be covered by an applicable mechanism, such as UK adequacy regulations or appropriate contractual safeguards and the required assessment.
Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your information and how to obtain a copy.
9. How long information is kept
We retain information according to its purpose, the settings below and any applicable legal requirements.
Google Analytics
Our property is configured with two-month event-data retention and 14-month user-data retention, with reset on new user activity enabled.
The reset restarts the retention period for a user identifier when new activity occurs; it does not restart the event-data period. Google’s separate rules apply to key-event data, which follows the user-data retention period, and to age, gender and interest data, which has a two-month period.
These controls do not apply to standard aggregated reports. Cookie expiry is a separate setting.
Correspondence and other records
| Information | Retention period or criteria |
|---|---|
| Email enquiries and associated material | While the enquiry and relevant follow-up remain open. After closure, retain only material needed for an ongoing relationship, a specific legal obligation or a relevant complaint or claim; delete the remainder |
| Agreements, permissions and accounting records | For the agreement or permission’s relevant duration and any applicable statutory or legal-claims period |
| Hosting access/security logs and backups | 30 days |
| Consent evidence and privacy-request records | While needed to demonstrate the choices relied on, fulfil the request and address related compliance enquiries or complaints; retain only the evidence needed for that purpose |
| Membership of a Meta website audience | 180 days |
| Advertising information held separately by Google or Meta | Subject to the relevant provider’s retention arrangements and applicable rights; audience membership and browser-cookie expiry are not the same as deletion of all provider-held event data |
We review whether records remain necessary. Information retained for a legal obligation or a specific claim is restricted to that purpose. Deletion from active systems and expiry of backup copies may occur on different schedules.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access to your personal information, correction of inaccuracies, erasure or restriction of processing. You may also have a right to receive certain information you provided in a portable format where the legal conditions are met.
Your right to object
You can object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation.
You have an absolute right to object to use of your personal information for direct marketing, including associated profiling. We will stop that use when you object.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw consent at any time using the cookie controls described in our Cookie Policy or by contacting us.
Withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful. For consent-based tracking, we stop the relevant processing, address erasure of information collected under that consent in accordance with your rights, and notify relevant recipients where required.
We may retain the limited evidence necessary to demonstrate your choice or meet another applicable legal obligation.
Making a request
Email info@theweddingavenue.co.uk or write to our correspondence address. No website account or special form is required.
We may request proportionate information to verify identity where needed. We respond without undue delay and normally within one month. We will explain any lawful extension, or any permitted pause while necessary information is obtained. Requests are normally free.
Where a request cannot be fulfilled in full, we explain why and the options available to you.
11. Automated processing
The advertising activities described above involve automated matching or grouping based on website activity. This can affect which advertisements you see.
We do not use personal information to make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
12. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect information, including controlling access to website administration and email accounts and using provider security arrangements appropriate to the service.
No online system is completely risk-free. We investigate personal-information incidents and make notifications where legally required. This does not limit your rights.
13. External links and editorial material
External websites have their own privacy arrangements. Following an ordinary external link is different from allowing an embedded service to load within one of our pages.
Where we introduce embedded tracking or another service, we explain it in the cookie information and obtain any required consent.
Where we agree to publish an identifiable wedding story or other personal material, we provide any additional information and obtain any permissions or consent needed for that publication.
14. Privacy complaints
Please contact info@theweddingavenue.co.uk, or write to our correspondence address, with a privacy question or complaint.
We acknowledge data protection complaints within 30 days, investigate without undue delay, keep you informed and explain the outcome.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, through its complaint service.
15. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change and amend the date at the top. Where necessary, we bring significant changes to your attention or obtain fresh consent.
Continuing to browse the website is not treated as consent to a new use of your information.
Provider information and controls
Google’s privacy policy, partner-site explanation, advertising settings and Analytics opt-out information provide further details about its services. Meta’s privacy and cookie notices explain its services and available controls. 20i’s data-processing agreement explains its hosting and email-processing commitments.
Our Cookie Policy explains the website-specific choices. Provider controls supplement, rather than replace, those choices.
